San Jose/Costa Rica – Portobelo/Panama
The story so far: In October 2006 Maik and I started, Tom, this recumbent tour and drove together from Germany to Tanzania – 6 months, 13500km. Maik devoted to other goals, I flew to India and cycled to Japan – 7 months, 9800km. After I took a break at home, we are back on the […]
Busan/South-Korea – Tokyo/Japan
Japan is different, as everybody knows. I am curious. I Just arrived in Japan, in the town of Shimonoseki. An elderly man starts a conversation and when he left, I hold his business card in my hand. A cliché-like welcome, as if it was planned ahead.
Beijing/China – Busan/South-Korea
Finally I am in the city centre of Beijing. Like always it’s not that easy to enter such a huge city by bike. The street widens up, becomes a big square, surrounded by barrier fences.
Xi’an/China – Beijing/China
I reach the origin of the Silk Road, the city of Xi’an. Here my route crosses the one of Jule and Karsten, friends from Berlin, travelling the world with their backpacks. (www.kreutziger.net)
Kangding/China – Xi’an/China
There were many interesting encounters on my way through Tibet. So here still a short report of this stage. Three times I meet groups of pilgrims on their way to Lhasa, practising the Unbelievable.
Lhasa/Tibet – Kangding/China
Tibet – difficult dirt roads, altitude sickness, bad water, difficult food supply, only salted tea with butter, rabid dogs, military check points all over. I meet about 6 chinese cyclists daily, students in semester break. “You will not get through there with your bike. It’s dangerous!”
Kathmandu/Nepal – Lhasa/Tibet/China
Dead end Nepal. What to do now? The best would be to enter China through Tibet. But to enter West- Tibet is not permitted for individual travellers. I knew that before, but things can change and sometimes, if you are there in person, more options open up. But I wanted to visit Nepal anyway.
